BMW’s chairman today confirmed the X6 crossover vehicle will go into production at the company’s North American plant next year. Norbert Reithofer said it would spearhead a flurry of new products in the next few years.
The X6 is designed to mix the best bits of BM’s saloon car range with its X3 and X5 off-roaders - but wrapped in a coupe-inspired design.
BMW announced 2006 pre-tax profits of more than £2.7 billion, with revenues up to a record of £33 billion. The group sold 1.37 million vehicles last year, up nearly 4 percent over 2005.
